                        Music 
                          Therapy Equivalency 
                          The Music Therapy Equivalency program is open to persons 
                          with expertise in music and holding a bachelor's degree 
                          in a related area (preferably music). This equivalency 
                          program usually requires approximately one and one-half 
                          years of study and permits students to complete required 
                          National Association for Music Therapy, Inc. (NAMT) 
                          coursework and a six-month clinical internship.  
                        A 
                          minimum of two semesters on-campus in addition to the 
                          6-month internship at an approved clinical site is required 
                          to complete the equivalency program in music therapy. 
                          Due to core course sequences students must begin the 
                          sequence in the Fall semester of each academic year. 
                           
                        Students 
                          must demonstrate proficiency in Class Voice, Class Piano, 
                          and Class Guitar or include these courses in the program 
                          of studies.  
                        The 
                          required Therapy Core courses for the Equivalency Program 
                          include Music Therapy (6 hours), Psychology of Music 
                          (3), Behavior Modification (3), Music in Special Education 
                          (3), Clinical Internship (10).  
                        The 
                          required Music courses for the Equivalency Program include 
                          60 semester hours in general music (required if not 
                          completed in Bachelor's degree), Music Recreation Techniques 
                          (3), Introduction to String Instruments (2), and Introduction 
                          to Winds/Percussion.
