                        Keyboard Area of the School of Music rose to national 
                        and international prominence during the eleven-year tenure 
                        of the distinguished Hungarian pianist and composer Ernst 
                        von Dohnányi, after whom Dohnányi Recital 
                        Hall is named, and the two decades of his famous protegé, 
                        American pianist Edward Kilenyi. Many outstanding pianists 
                        have graduated from FSU, a large number of whom hold college 
                        and university positions across the country and abroad. Piano 
                          and organ performance degree programs are offered on 
                          all levels, freshman through doctoral; degrees in accompanying/collaborative 
                          piano are available to graduate students; and the piano 
                          pedagogy major is offered for undergraduate and master’s 
                          students. In addition, piano is the primary instrument 
                          of a large number of students majoring in other areas 
                          of music. The well-rounded curriculum includes duo piano, 
                          harpsichord, fortepiano, comprehensive piano literature 
                          classes, piano technology, piano pedagogy, accompanying 
                          classes, and a complete series of organ courses from 
                          hymnology to design and maintenance. |  |
