PATRICK
MEIGHAN, Professor of Saxophone, was appointed
the school's first artist-teacher of saxophone
in 1974. He has concertized extensively
as a soloist and ensemble recitalist, having
appeared in music festivals and on radio
and television in Australia, Albania, Colombia,
Croatia, Germany, Japan, Kosovo, Peru, and
Switzerland. Described in Musical America
as "most exceptional, with an otherworldly
tone and fluid technique..," his engagements
have taken him throughout the continental
United States (including Lincoln Center),
Hawaii, Canada, South America, Europe, and
Puerto Rico.
The
European-based Rascher Saxophone Orchestra
invited Mr. Meighan to join its ensemble
in the summer of 2000. The orchestra's debut
concert took place that fall season at the
prestigious Ludwigsburg Music Festival in
Germany; their first CD was released in
fall 2002 and is distributed internationally
by BIS Records AB. He has served as principal
saxophonist with The Tallahassee Symphony
Orchestra, The Jacksonville Symphony, The
Florida West Coast Symphony, The Naples
Philharmonic, and Keith Brion and his New
Sousa Band, and in summers is on the faculty
of The University of Louisville Cardinal
Saxophone Workshop.
As
a jazz/pop/rock instrumentalist, he has
appeared with Sammy Davis, Jr., Vic Damone,
Joe Lovano, Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme,
Three Mo' Tenors, Johnny Mathis, The Four
Tops, The Jackson Five, and The Temptations.
Professor Meighan has studied with Galan
Kral, Larry Teal, and renowned saxophonist
Sigurd Rascher; he holds degrees from The
Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of
Music and The University of Michigan.
