VICTORIA
McARTHUR, Program Director of Piano Pedagogy,
and Coordinator of Group Piano, has taught
all levels and ages of students from preschool
to college. She is Director of McArthur
and Musical Associates, a comprehensive
piano studio offering both private and group
instruction to students in piano, theory,
and music appreciation. She was Founding
Editor for The FJH Music Co., and has co-authored
over thirty books for FJH, including the
popular piano method, Piano Adventures.
She currently is Keyboard Editor for Alfred
Publishing Co., Los Angeles, where she continues
writing and editing educational publications.
In addition, Dr. McArthur is music review
editor for Piano and Keyboard (formerly
The Piano Quarterly).
McArthur
received the Ph.D. in Music Education (emphasis
in piano performance pedagogy/ research)
from Florida State University. She has pursued
postgraduate work in biomechanics (movement
science) and motor psychology. She has presented
papers at both the national and international
levels dealing with topics such as motivation,
movement patterns among pianists, pianists'
injuries, sight reading and visual perception,
instructional applications of computers
in music studios, and practice methods.
This research continues through the auspices
of the Center for Music Research in the
School of Music. She has also written a
chapter on sightreading in the Oxford University
Press publication, The Science and Psychology
of Music Performance.
