EVAN
JONES, Assistant Professor of Music Theory,
is a candidate for the Ph.D. in music theory
and the D.M.A. in cello performance from
the Eastman School of Music. While at Eastman
he coordinated and instructed a wide variety
of music theory and aural skills courses;
he also taught music theory at the University
of Rochester and taught cello at Colgate
University. Prof. Jones is a past winner
of a Sproull Fellowship from the University
of Rochester and a Doctoral Fellowship from
the Social Sciences and Humanities Research
Council of Canada, as well as teaching prizes
from both Eastman and the University of
Rochester.
Jones
has presented his research at numerous regional
and national conferences, and has performed
in Weill Recital Hall and Merkin Hall, among
other venues. From 1997-99 Prof. Jones served
as co-editor of Integral, a peer-reviewed
journal of music theory. His dissertation
and related papers focus on issues of voice
leading in diatonic space; other research
interests include the music of Iannis Xenakis,
early twentieth-century rhythm, and the
interaction of analysis and performance.
