Graduate
Assistantships and Fellowships
Guidelines for financial aid and scholarships
for graduate students are out outlined below.
Assistantships
Graduate assistantships are available
in most areas of study in the School of Music. The annual
stipend varies from $3,000 to $10,000 depending upon
the amount of service rendered, the nature of the service,
and the qualifications of the student. Graduate assistants
usually receive a waiver of a substantial portion of
both in-state and out-of-state tuition. Applications
will be accepted at any time, but March 31 is the deadline
for assistantships that begin fall semester.
All
students who complete the application process for admission
to the School of Music are considered automatically
for a graduate assistantship. No additional application
is required.
General
Financial Aid
Graduate Students are eligible to apply
for financial aid through the Federal College Work Study
Program, the Federal Perkins Loan and the Federal Family
Loan Programs (Stafford, Non-Subsidized Stafford, SLS
and PLUS). Students should correspond directly with
the Office
of Financial Aid, Florida State University, Tallahassee,
FL 32306-2430 to receive appropriate applications and
instructions. Because of strict financial deadlines,
this process must take place as soon as possible after
January 1 to be considered for aid for the following
academic year. A student may apply for financial aid
before acceptance for admission. Financial aid awards,
however, are not made until the student is admitted
to the University.
University
Fellowships
University
Fellowships are available to a limited number of students
in all disciplines. These fellowships pay stipends of
$15,000 for both master’s and doctoral students.
Generally,
students are not awarded University Fellowships with
grade point averages below 3.7 or GRE Quantitative/Verbal
scores below 1400, unless the applicant can demonstrate
exceptional professional or performance experience.
The
deadline for applying for a University Fellowship is
January 15. Please contact the Graduate Music Office
for appropriate forms and information.
Financial
Aid for Minority Graduate Students
Minority graduate students should contact
the Graduate Office at the School of Music (850.644.5848)
for information about special assistantship/fellowship
programs available for minority students. Because of
early deadlines for a number of these programs, students
should call as soon as possible during the application
period.

of the states list on the chart below are eligible for
waiver of the non-resident portion of tuition. For detailed
