LUBOMIR
GEORGIEV, Associate Professor of Cello,
joined the FSU faculty in Fall 1993, following
his position as principal cellist in the
Sacramento Symphony. Mr. Georgiev graduated
from the Bulgarian State Conservatory in
Sofia and received the Artist Diploma from
Indiana University, where he was a student
of Janos Starker. While in Bulgaria, he
was soloist and principal cellist with the
Sofia Philharmonic for nine years and appeared
as guest artist with major orchestras and
numerous Bulgarian radio recordings.
Georgiev
has won national and international awards
and competitions in the CIS (former USSR),
Germany and Italy, followed by solo and
recital engagements in Europe, the United
States, and Japan. Mr. Georgiev is also
an accomplished composer. His string quartet,
Musica Multiplici Mentes, won first prize
in the Carl Maria von Weber Competition
in Dresden, Germany, in 1981. The "Valentino
Bucchi" Prize of Rome, Italy, was awarded
to his Double Bass Concerto in 1986. Mr.
Georgiev is a frequent guest performer at
festivals in Bear Valley, CA, Desert Foothills,
AZ, and Varna, Bulgaria, and currently serves
as principal cellist with the Tallahassee
Symphony Orchestra.
