JANE
PIPER CLENDINNING, Associate Professor of
Music Theory, received the Ph.D. and M.Phil.
degrees from Yale University as a Yale University
Fellow. She holds the M.M. degree from North
Texas State University and B.M. (music theory)
and B.S. (mathematics) degrees from Samford
University. Prior to coming to Florida State
University in 1990, Professor Clendinning
taught at the Hartt School of Music, University
of Hartford, and at Yale.
Professor
Clendinning has published articles reflecting
her interests in the history of theory,
theory and analysis of recent twentieth-century
music, computer pitch recognition, and computer
applications in music theory. She served
as President of Music Theory Southeast,
1994-1996, and as editor for the Society
for Music Theory¹s electronic mail
listserver, SMT-List, 1995-97. She was treasurer
for SMT from 1991-1994.
Dr.
Clendinning teaches undergraduate courses
in eighteenth-century counterpoint, twentieth-century
styles, music since World War II, accelerated
music theory, and graduate courses in the
history of music theory, atonal analysis,
and other topics related to twentieth-century
music.
