KAREN
CLARKE, Professor of Violin, has appeared
as soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic,
the North Carolina Symphony, the Wisconsin
Chamber Orchestra, the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra,
the FSU Chamber Orchestra, the Tallahassee
Symphony, and orchestras throughout Florida.
A former member of the Baltimore Symphony
Orchestra, she has served as concertmaster
of the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra
under the baton of Leonard Bernstein, the
Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, the Tallahassee
Symphony Orchestra, and the Atlanta Baroque
Orchestra. She has performed and recorded
with the Smithsonian Chamber Orchestra,
the Apollo Ensemble, and the Boston Early
Music Festival Orchestra.
As
a founding member of the Rogeri Trio, Ms.
Clarke performed throughout the United States
and held a residency at Yale University.
She maintains a versatile performing career,
equally at home as a recitalist, soloist,
chamber musician, orchestral player, and
period-instrument violinist. Appointed to
the FSU faculty in 1980, she received the
Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees
from the Peabody Conservatory. Additional
study of baroque violin took place in London.
Clarke's
students have been finalists in solo and
chamber competitions at the national level
and hold positions in symphony orchestras
and in university teaching in the U.S. and
abroad. A native of Boise, Idaho, her teachers
have included Joseph Silverstein, Robert
Gerle and Donald Weilerstein.
