JUDY
BOWERS, Associate Professor of Choral Music
Education, holds music degrees from Louisiana
State University (Ph.D.) and Texas Tech
University (B.M.E.). She has extensive experience
in teaching at all levels. She is an active
clinician and member of the American Choral
Directors Association, serving as Southern
Division Youth and Students Chair, and the
Music Educators National Conference, currently
serving on the editorial board of Update.
In
addition to choral performances and teacher
workshops, her research interests include
learning partnerships, the adolescent voice
change, and at-risk music students. She
has published in national journals and regularly
makes presentations at national and regional
conferences. At FSU Dr. Bowers teaches choral
methods, conducting laboratory, introduction
to music teaching, graduate research in
choral music, and supervision of choral
and elementary student teachers. Ensembles
she conducts include the FSU Women's Glee
Club and the summer University Chorale.
In
addition, Dr. Bowers directs two community
service programs: Capital Children's Choir
and the Adopt-A-Choir program with the public
schools and senior citizens choir.
